Be Still

This semester my bible study is working on the book "He Speaks to Me" by Priscilla Shirer. The book is all about prayer and hearing from God. I have really enjoyed it. I also have felt that I have learned tons of new things, which is a great feeling! I recommend you all read this book.

The chapter we covered a couple weeks ago was entitled Be Still and the main bible verse was Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God". I felt that this chapter hit home for me, especially in this busy semester. I  think that this chapter will hit home with many you as well.

In the beginning of this chapter she states that we are huge planners and control freaks. She gives the example of her birth story with one of her sons. She had a whole plan for how she wanted to give birth and she forgot that in fact she was not in control of anything, it was all in God's hands. I think that this is a HUGE reminder that I need to remember every single day. She also explains that we need to not only remember He is in control, but that we need to sit!

The One with the answer is right here,
but the problem is that we won't
sit still long enough for
Him to give us what we need.

In 1 Samuel 3:3 God speaks to Samuel only when he is lying down. God does not speak to us when we are busy. I know this sounds crazy, how are we supposed to not be busy?! That's what went through my head at least... I like how Priscilla said that we need to slow down and hush the noise in our lives so that we can more clearly discern what our Father wants to say. She also says that we often miss out on His blessings because we just won't be still. Reading this was an eye opener for me. I know being still and not busy is easier said than done, but I am going to try. I also encourage you to try. I will probably (most definitely) struggle with being still and not busy for the rest of my life. But, I think I can  leave 45 minutes or even less to be still and cease all activity and noise in my life in order to listen to what He has to tell me. I hope you remember and work to make time to be still for Him!
