On My Heart

Today I decided to link up with Casey over at The Wiegands and share what is on my heart.

My freshmen year of college at Oklahoma State University I took the normal core classes that every students takes. However, only God could have planned what would happen in my college algebra class. It was a great semester... I actually really enjoyed algebra and my professor made the class interesting and fun. At the end of the semester Nacoe, the professor, gave a little speech about her faith and the Christian walk and encouraged everyone in the class to think about it. (I don't remember exactly what she said... that was almost 4 years ago)

Now, let me back up... I grew up in a fantastic southern family. We did not go to church, but I was able to go with friends every now and then when I would want to. I grew up knowing of our creator, but I did not have a personal relationship with Him. My parents did not want to push religion or anything onto my sister and I. So, I never really knew the ins and outs of Christianity.

Nacoe's speech on our last day of class really got me thinking. I felt that I should email her and figure out why her words were so heavy on my heart. After Christmas break that year... 2010-2011 I did just that. It was a new semester so I did not have her as a professor any longer and she actually was not even teaching at OSU that Spring. But, she randomly checked her OSU email and got in touch with me.

We started meeting at a local coffee shop. She walked me through the book of John in the Bible. She prayed for me. It was life changing. My view point of the world was completely different. I now felt this overwhelming love, support, and encouragement. I met Jesus Christ through my college algebra teacher in a coffee shop in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

I continued to meet individually with Nacoe the rest of the semester and I was welcomed into her small group. This small group was made up of beautiful and intelligent girls that will forever hold a place in my heart. They may not know it, but I learned so much from just listening to them talk. Our bible study continued throughout that year and in the summer of 2011 I chose to be Baptized. In church there had been several message about baptism and it seemed that every time I opened my Bible there would be a passage about baptism. Coincidence? I think not. Definitely God's Providence.

I asked Nacoe if she would baptize me and she of course said yes! I made the trip back up to Stillwater to proclaim Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in front of my family, her family, Cameron, and the Church.

I wrote this mainly because I felt the need to share my story. I also want to remember the details and just how beautiful this day was. I am so thankful for Nacoe and for God placing me in her class. I now know that I went to OSU to meet her because through her I found Him.
